New Jersey Student Support Act (Proposed)
Tax-Credit Scholarship in New Jersey
About This Program
[PROPOSED LEGISLATION — NOT ENACTED] New Jersey does not currently have an active private school choice program. The proposed New Jersey Student Support Act (A-4144/S-3035) would create a tax credit scholarship program through the Department of Treasury, providing tax credits for contributions to SGOs that award scholarships to eligible nonpublic school students. The proposal faces significant opposition from education advocates and teachers' unions.

New Jersey does NOT currently have an active private school choice program. The proposed NJ Student Support Act (A-4144/S-3035) would establish a tax credit scholarship program. Students must be from households with incomes up to 4.3x the federal income guidelines for reduced-price lunch ($248,196 for a family of four). The amended bill reduces available voucher funding from $250 million to $37.5 million annually. The proposal remains controversial and has not been enacted.
